Incredible Ads that Tell a Gripping Story
12 Oct, 2012
Advertisements must be catchy, engaging, and convey a message in only a few seconds. One of the best methods for completing these goals with your magazine, TV, or poster ads is by creating a story that clearly portrays your message–of course, this is easier said than done. One of the best ways to come up with story ideas that are relevant to your message is with a brainstorming session with colleagues, or even friends and family. Or you can crowdsource your advertisement to Facebook and Twitter fans to see what creative ideas your fans and followers create.
After you decide on a strong story idea, the next hard part comes into play – piecing the design together. Of course a storyboard works best for laying out your story before jumping into designing the details. Again, this is where a lot of feedback can be helpful. When creating a layout, one of the main important aspects to focus on is being sure the entire design clearly conveys your message, even without fancy colors and graphics yet put together.
Finally, you also have to be sure your magazine or poster ads still represent the brand well. If you have an incredible story ad but no one can recognize your brand, then all of your hard work will be for nothing. Incorporating colors, the logo, fonts, or any other relevant brand elements is an excellent way to do this.
The following roundup of incredible ads with a gripping story will hopefully serve as good examples on how to successfully create an effective design. Some are funny, others are cute, some are serious, and others are just plain weird. Whatever the style and tone you intend for your ad, you should be able to find it in one of the posters below. Enjoy!

Loved most of it. Some of it were a little bland but most were really striking pieces. Goes to show that no matter how many Adobe effects you know of, if you don’t have a sound concept behind what you’re doing, the results will only be mediocre. Some of the ads on your list are also well-executed photos, with perfect lighting and textures, that they can stand on their own with minimal help from photo manipulation. Cheers!
